Welcome to Reasonable Hope

Reasonable Hope

Reasonable Hope – Daily Reflections

Hi, this is Dave and Brian. Welcome to Reasonable Hope.

We live in a world that often feels divided and fragile. Many of us have experienced that personally, either through loss, broken relationships, difficult seasons, or simply the weight of everyday life. If we’re honest, hope can sometimes feel out of reach.

And yet, through all of life’s ups and downs, one thing has remained steady for both of us: hope. Not wishful thinking, but a hope grounded in reason.

This podcast is our invitation to share that journey with you.

These reflections are an attempt to help us all better search for truth and find hope along the way. They’re also about asking better questions, questions that challenge how we think and open us to new ways of seeing. This is a creative space, one that encourages you to listen to your questions, to pay attention to your doubts, and not let those voices be silenced.

We often draw from math and philosophy, not as abstract ideas, but as lenses that reveal deeper patterns in life, helping us move forward with clarity and courage.

If trying harder hasn’t led to lasting change, maybe seeing differently can. Our approach invites your mind, heart, and soul—engaging the full human experience.

Reasonable Hope is a short daily podcast designed to help you begin your day with perspective, curiosity, and grounded hope. You likely have studied the "plumbing" of math. Reasonable Hope is a window into the "poetry" of math.

Why Reasonable Hope?

Reasonable Hope is a journey.

From subjects to stories.

From how to why.

From plumbing to poetry.

From answers to questions.

From reaction to reflection.

From facts to wonder.

From memory to mindset.

From reason to reasonable hope.

Mathematics does more than teach us how to solve problems.

It trains the mind to see patterns, explore perspectives, and find beauty.

Those habits of mind don’t just solve equations but they help us think more clearly about life itself.

Who We Are

Dave spent his career in actuarial science and mathematics. While mastering the plumbing of math led to success, it was the beauty of mathematics that transformed how he sees the world.

Brian began in mathematics, computer science, and actuarial science before turning his focus toward helping people wrestle with life’s deeper questions and discover their why for living.

Our First Thought

Hope begins with a bigger view of what mathematics is:

"If we want to value and encourage all the people we meet who think in different ways, we must reject narrow mathematics, which is the only mathematics most people know. Instead, we should embrace mathematical diversity."
